Many times we dread Mondays. Often it's because the weekend was a time to relax and let go of some of our many responsibilities and Monday reminds us of the never-ending to-do list. 

There a few reasons we might feel this way ....

1. Unhappy with work

2. The wrong balance between work and personal life 

3. Unprepared for the week to come - procrastination get us 

4. Lack of exercise or activity

Monday can be the greatest day to your week if you follow these 3 simple steps and take a closer look at how your Monday’s could turn into the BEST Monday’s ever!

 Step 1: Get up Early!

Mark Tobiassen from Action Coach says, ” The average Millionaire wakes up at 6am or earlier everyday.” Make the most out of the time you have been given. It pays off in the long run.

Step 2: Plan your Workout Time for the week the Night Before

Knowing when you will be working out for the week gives you that extra push. Say this in the morning, “OK  body, I know I need to work out at X time today. No Excuses”  You will be shocked when you stop seeing your workout time as optional and start seeing it as mandatory.

Step 3: Plan Healthy Meals for the week

Don't let time sneak up on you and you don't know what to make for dinner. Get a plan and stick to it.

Let’s face it, working out and a healthy lifestyle can be hard to accomplish when you’re living life at a fast pace. Between work, family, life, and other events there’s often little time or energy to stay on track. Planning and organization can help bring consistency to your lifelong commitment. First, by planning your week of workouts in advance on Sunday night or early Monday morning, you can create a plan that already takes into account appointments you have scheduled. Rather than waiting till Tuesday morning to realize your evening workout won’t happen because you forgot your husband has a work dinner you’re required to accompany him to, you review your work and personal calendar Sunday and realize that Tuesday you will have to get up super early to get that day’s workout in. You adjust your schedule accordingly. Planning also gives you a chance to come up with a “backup” plan. If Tuesday won’t work at all, perhaps Saturday or Sunday can be a makeup day or Thursday can be an extra long session to make up the difference. In the age of electronics, there are apps and tools out there for this kind of planning. However, sometimes it’s just a plain piece of paper labeled Monday-Sunday that works best with a number two pencil for changes. A national pharmacy store chain often sells a tablet of weekly planning pages that can be torn out and filled in at the start of the week. These are often great for that weekly view one stop shop view.

Secondly, planning your meals a week in advance, can you help you stay on track with a healthy eating plan.  Often logging your favorite “go-to” meals in an app or tool, means you can simply review the master list and decide what the meals will be all week long. You can then lookup new recipes to fit in between old standbys.  Using the master list, you can then create a grocery list before the week begins. Easier said than done? Yes, sometimes planning does take a lot of work when we’re most tired (or lazy) on Sunday night.

Is it worth it? Absolutely – Planning is one of the keys to having lifelong fitness and health. Anyone can plan for one diet for one month. But looking at healthy living for the rest of your life means making planning itself part of your routine just as you would fitness or rest or fun!

Next, organization is another key to helping you achieve your lifelong fitness goals. We created the SmartGirl Bag out of sheer necessity. After years of going to the gym carrying big ugly duffel bags or pretty but useless "tote" bags, there was a need for something more. The last straw was when not finding what was needed for a workout turned into a skipped workout for the last time.

Always in a hurry, a bag was needed that had "quick easy access" to the important gym essentials in order to get in and out of the gym without a lot of fuss. Bags on today’s market are either huge black holes where everything gets dumped into but is hard to sort through and find what you need or they’re pretty but lacking any organization at all. There are sporty plain bags and sure they’re cool but one can only do “Sporty” for so many years. After all, we have nothing to prove. Sporty doesn’t mean I work harder in the gym than pretty does it?  What ever happened to pretty in the gym? Sassy? Chic? The SmartGirl Bag redefines the gym bag experience.

Regarding organization, there are a few bags out there with "advanced organization" but in researching these options, they required one to fold and neatly fit your items into certain shelf-like compartments in order to take advantage of the organizational features. Fold my stuff?? Not on your life. A separate zippered compartment for shoes? This means taking the time to put shoes into it! Time is what we're all short on!  Most of us have a short window of opportunity for getting our workout in during the day. We want quick easy access. We want to walk into the gym and throw our keys, sunglasses and phone in one pocket, grab our headphones, arm band and padlock out of the others and jump on the treadmill.

So SmartGirl Bags took the concept of a purse-like sassy chic pretty “look” and married the look with tons of pockets both inside and out. We tested the first prototypes for over 2 years with real women at the gym who go on a regular basis. With final modifications made in 2014 and sassy fabrics and colors chosen, we launched our Spring 2015 line. We added an optional Power pack (SmartPack) so that the woman on the go can stay powered up with her phone and essentials.

We also have feedback from customers that they love our bags for non-gym purposes. Many ladies say they use theirs for crafts, for traveling (a tablet fits nicely in the long outer pocket), day bags, and even for a camera bag. In fact, one customer uses hers as a purse!

Are your workouts a chore? April 02, 2015 15:25

When working out is a lifestyle, it means a lot of workouts each year. If you workout three times per week, that's 156 workouts each calendar year; four times a year = 208. If you're like most of us, not every workout is a slam dunk. When fitness is a lifestyle, there are days one is just pure bored. An important component for not losing motivation is to add variety to spice things up, especially when the going gets tough. Sometimes it's hard to see the choices that you might have. There's always the choice of "what do I do today?, Do I choose treadmill? Elliptical? Cycling? Do I do weights on my own? or a Weight lifting class? But that's usually where our choice menu ends.

Some ideas for new choices include to research day passes for other gyms in your area besides your own. Some gyms have unique fitness classes with a daily drop in rate of $5-$15. How about a dance fitness studio where you can take a few dance aerobic classes?  Often just going some place new will get you motivated again. How about joining a bootcamp for a month? Or how about checking out the programs at community centers or the YMCA? Often the fitness programs are low cost and the variety is worth the extra charge. Often Groupon or Living Social have fitness class specials or bootcamps at a reduced rate. These are also good alternatives to shake it up.

I recommend making a chart of all of the classes your gym and your gym's branches (other locations) offer based on Monday-Saturday during hours you are most likely to go. Then add to it the other offerings as mentioned above as "backup"  or alternative to take when bored. So when going to run 3 miles on a treadmill sounds dreadful, you can see what's available at the timeslot elsewhere. This keeps things fresh and often just knowing there's an alternative helps you achieve your goal.

The Good Days + The Bad Days = The Lifestyle February 24, 2015 10:12

One thing is for certain, working out should be a lifestyle not a fad. A lot of women grow up thinking working out is synomous with dieting. The mentality is "if I blow my diet, I might as well stop working out too." The cycle of thinking like this can continue from generation to generation and it breeds obesity. Working out should be a lifestyle. It is about balancing the good days and the bad days and not beating yourself up. There will be days you don't do it. But do it tomorrow. There will be days you eat that cheeseburger and fries (and dare I say a chocolate milkshake?), but don't skip your workout that day. There will be days you can run forever and days you can barely make 15 minutes. Embrace the day for what it is and don't let guilt or expectations make you react with self-disgust or worse self-sabotage. Working out is a lifestyle. Embrace the good day and make the most of it - run longer. Embrace the bad day, and say "tomorrow will be better" but just keep doing it.
